About the event
"20th century stories about sexual and gender minorities in Estonia" opening in Vabamu.
The e-guide of the permanent exhibition about Vabamu's repressions and attempts at freedom brings to the museum the strange stories of Estonia in the 20th century.
What happened to sexual and gender minority people during World War II? How and where was homosexuality discussed in Soviet Estonia? What led to the decriminalization of homosexual relationships? What role has marriage played in the lives of homosexual people in Soviet times and today?
An audio guide in Estonian, English and Russian brings to the museum the stories of sexual and gender minorities, from the time when we were called "such" to today's LGBT activism and community issues.
The new e-guide supplement is prepared in cooperation with the research project of the University of Tartu "Multiplicity of remembrance in Baltic history museums: practices and challenges (PRG1097)".
